Community Spotlight: Meet Brady from Kidokinetics San Diego

At Kidokinetics, movement meets fun in the most unexpected and exciting ways—from soccer to archery to obstacle courses and more. This month, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Brady Boyd, the energetic and passionate owner of Kidokinetics San Diego. With a heart for kids and a background rooted in sports and community, Brady is helping children across the area stay active, build confidence, and try something new. Get to know him, his journey, and what makes Kidokinetics such a valuable part of the San Diego area community.

Can you start by introducing yourself? Tell us a bit about who you are and what brought you to Kidokinetics.

Hi, my name is Brady Boyd.  I have a background as a financial planner, but my true joy and passions have always been playing sports and working with kids.  I looked at several franchise opportunities, including a home restoration company.  My wife was quick to point out that the baby gate I had installed in our own home was falling out of the wall, so the restoration company was probably not the best fit.  When I came across Kidokinetics, I knew it was the perfect fit.  I could blend my love and passion for sports with helping serve the next generation.

What’s your background, and how did it lead you to start your own Kidokinetics franchise? Were you always passionate about sports, fitness, or working with kids?

With a background as a former college athlete and as a father of two kids, I understand the importance physical activity and fitness can have on kids, and I enjoy passing on my love for sports to kids to help them PLAY CONFIDENTLY!  I grew up playing football and running track.  During the summer each year, I attended a sports camp, which had a powerful impact on my life.  I enjoy passing on my joy for sports to others in hopes that they will have as significant of an impact on their lives.

For those who may not be familiar, what is Kidokinetics, and what makes it unique?

Kidokinetics has been in youth fitness for more than 25 years.  As educators, we understand the importance of movement for physical, mental, and emotional wellness.  We provide a comprehensive sports and fitness experience that is engaging and fun, helping kids meet physical activity expectations while honing social skills, relieving stress, and building confidence.  We believe that learning a variety of sports is the best tool to develop motor skills, and lays the foundation for future success, and that every child deserves to move and play in ways that benefit their overall development.  Movement is essential for physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development.

How is archery incorporated into the Kidokinetics experience? That’s such a cool and unexpected sport to teach kids!

Playing one sport can hinder broad motor skill development, so each week we introduce a new sport.  Archery is always the biggest hit and most requested sport!  We use Faux Bow to teach archery, which simulates a realistic experience while providing a safe environment.

Kidokinetics starts teaching archery at the kindergarten level! What is the reaction from parents and educators when you share this?  How do the kindergartners do with the Faux Bows?

It always amazes me to see the focus and attention kindergartners have while doing Faux Bow archery.  Their listening skills and attention to detail also amazes their teachers and parents.

What’s your favorite part of running a Kidokinetics in the San Diego community? Any standout moments or success stories?

I love seeing the impact we have on so many lives.  My favorite part is coaching my 7 year old daughter's class.  It's beyond fulfilling to see her and her friends laugh and play.

How does Kidokinetics help kids be more active and spend less time in front of screens?

At Kidokinetics, we believe the best way to promote a positive view of physical activity is to ensure the kids are having FUN and are feeling CONFIDENT in class each week. Kidokinetics empowers kids from ages 1 to 10 to play confidently by providing a fun introduction to sports through 8 different PE programs & sports enrichment camps offered at local centers, schools, and parks around San Diego.  Each sports enrichment class & camp has what we call the F.U.N. Factor - meaning it's Fundamental, Understandable, & Noncompetitive.  We know most children love to be physically active, but research shows that a lack of activity may limit children from continuing to develop fundamental gross and fine motor skills.  Each child will get to experience a variety of sports - many of which they may have tried before, like basketball and soccer, and some they haven't, like field hockey, lacrosse, or archery.

Kidokinetics offers a wide variety of sports—how do you introduce new ones and make them accessible to all kids?

Our approach is to break down sports into simple practice-techniques that they can do even at home.  Each child has their own set of equipment, which eliminates sitting-and-wating, compared to other sport programs.

What do parents usually say after their kids attend a Kidokinetics class or party?
(We’re guessing a lot of smiles and energy!)

We love the great feedback parents have.  Here's a quote from a Kidokinetics parent, "My son always looks forward to Kidokinetics school days!  He loves the coaches and activities.  I love that he's learning so many different sports - building confidence, coordination, and a love of fintess and movement."

How do you create an inclusive and confidence-building environment for kids of all skill levels?

Our program is non-competitive, confidence-building, and developmentally appropriate.  We focus on fitness and fun-with no pressure to compete.  Every kid feels included - building confidence and self-esteem.  Whether 2 years or 10 years old, our program adapts to children's abilities.

What advice would you give to other parents, coaches, or community leaders who want to help kids fall in love with movement and play?

Any coach, educator, or parent of young kids would agree that it's hard work and is not easy to capture the attention of young kids.  However, the work you are doing is life changing!  I'd encourage you to keep going.  The hard work you are doing will pay off and the return is exponential.  You are laying the foundation that will last a lifetime.

If parents and educators want to get involved with Kidokinetics at your location or one near them, how should they get in touch to get started?

We would absolutely love to talk to educators and parents wanting to learn more.  They can visit our website, email us at sandiego@kidokinetics.com , or give us a call at 760-456-8668.

From fun fitness parties to after-school programs that spark a lifelong love for movement, Brady and the Kidokinetics San Diego team are redefining what it means to “get active.” We’re grateful for leaders like Brady who are making sports more accessible and helping the next generation thrive—on and off the field.
